Prayer for a Working Mother

This Sunday night, as I prepare to start a new week, I'm seeking God's assistance to guide me through the hardship of leaving my daughter for work.  I wrote this prayer to guide me and thought it might give other working moms as much peace as it's given me.

My God,
You have blessed me with abundance.
You have given me the gifts of a husband and child(ren).
You have have blessed me with gifts and talents
which I use to care for my family;
among these is the ability to work to provide
for their material needs.
Grant me the patience to balance work and family,
the peace to leave the difficulties of the job at the door,
and the energy to care for my family when I return home.
Lord, watch over my family while I am away,
keep them healthy and safe.
When I am with them,
give me the grace to be Your Love in their lives.
In all that I do,
in work and at home,
may I glorify you
and be the Light to those around me.

  1. What a touching prayer. I am a mother and I can feel your pain while I read it. I will add your family to my prayer.

  2. Very nice, Mandi. I am sure there is a good reason for
you having this job. "You go nowhere by accident. Wherever you
go, God is sending you. Wherever you go, God is sending you. Wherever you
are, God has put you there. God has a purpose in your being there. Christ who
indwells you has something He wants to do through you, where you are."

  4. Hi Mandi, my name is Shannon, I just randomly clicked over here from another blog and saw your prayer. I am a working mom too. I hope you and your baby have as smooth a transition as possible.

  5. This was so apt for me today as I left my baby the first day at her daycare. I'll be saying this prayer from now on everyday. Thanks so much for sharing!

  7. Kelley, although it hasn't been how we "planned" it, it certainly is a blessing for me to have an income while my husband is unemployed and for me to use my degree!

  10. Mandi,
Thank you for this beautiful prayer. I recently found your blog while I was pumping at work (as I am now). I am in a similar situation, as I am working full time while my wonderful husband stays home with our 4 mo. old baby boy, although we both always planned for it to be the other way around. Leaving my baby is the greatest challenge of each day. I'll be praying this prayer. Thank you for your ministry of encouragement to other moms.
