Blowin' in the Wind

On Monday morning, David was cooking breakfast for us when he suggested that I get my copy of the Magnificat and we say the morning prayer together.  I'd love to say this was a daily thing for us, but this may be the first time since my subscription started last month that we even thought about it.  We had just barely started when he received a phone call with some very interesting news...

He's been offered a job to teach science at a Catholic high school!

We are so beyond thrilled.  I had initially planned to put off sharing the news on the blog until he had his contract all signed and sent in, but I just couldn't wait any longer.  After all, if it weren't for this blog, he wouldn't have been offered the job at all!  I'm serious!  A sweet, sweet blog reader was the one who told me about this potential job.  When I started my blog nearly three years ago, I never imagined that anyone would ever read it, much less help my husband find a job after a year+ job search.  We've also felt all the prayers from all of you who have joined us in praying that this day would come.  Thank you!

I'm going to ask for some additional prayers though as we prepare for this move.  Oh wait, I haven't told you where his job is!  It's in Raleigh.  We'll be headed back a year to the month after we left.  We'll be moving late next month, making it the fourth July in a row of out of state moves.  I know some of you in the military/married to the military do this often and you have my utmost respect.  Moving is never fun.  It's always hard, but this one is the hardest so far.  I moved away from family and friends when I got married 3 years ago, but this time we're moving Lucia away from her grandparents, great grandparents, uncles, aunts, and her unborn cousin.

We had really hoped that when David did find a job, it would be nearby, but we knew that the likelihood was that it would be elsewhere.  And I'm so grateful that if we have to be moving away from family that it's to Raleigh.  We have friends there.  We know the area.  We love the weather.  We have a dentist and a pediatrician for Lucia.  We can have future babies in the birth center where Lucia was born.  My all-time favorite grocery store is there (Harris Teeter, y'all!).  We made a life there once before and I know we can again.

David has been toying with the idea of making a career out of teaching and now is his chance to make it a go.  We know that it will never be much money and that finances will continue to be tight.  But we'll make it work.  I've been thinking about whether I'll be looking for a job or not and I'm not quite sure.  I'll apply for a teaching license again (why didn't I listen to that little voice in the back of my head that was telling me I should have just renewed it?) and apply to sub in Wake County.  Unfortunately many jobs don't pay enough for me to bring home anything after paying for daycare and gas.  And truth be told, I'd rather be home with my toddler anyway.  I think I'm going to have to take a more creative approach to finding a job/earning a little extra money from home or on the evenings/weekends.

You may have already noticed that I've had more sponsored posts than usual on the blog.  I try to keep sponsored posts/giveaways/reviews to once a week but as long as the topic is something that I can write personally about, I just can't turn down these kind of posts right now.  I hope you understand.  In turn, I absolutely understand if you skip these kind of posts.  But I guarantee that those posts are as genuine as any I write.  I always tie in personal stories or experiences and if you skip those posts, you may miss out on some of our goings-on around here (not that those are super exciting or your life will feel completely incomplete if you don't know about Lucia's latest potty training adventures).

So, here we go, the Messy family on another messy life adventure... but we're together and we know that wherever we go, our God is with us.  Here, we go, blowin' in the wind.  Yet again...

  3. YAY!! You never know he may like teaching better than any of the research/lab jobs and maybe it'll lead to something more. My dad had a degree in biology and was a teacher because it was what he loved to do :)

So many people are living in Raleigh I'm going to have to take a weekend trip up there soon!

  6. Congratulations, you guys! That's awesome!!!

How do you go about writing sponsored posts, by the way? My husband is a doctoral program, so we're pretty tight on money, too ;-)

  9. Thanks, Michele!

Most of the sponsored posts I write are through SocialSpark. You sign up and will have "leads" and "offers" sent your way. If you don't want to write about something - no problem, just don't take the lead/offer. If you do, it's a little extra money! If you do sign up, would you mind using my referral link? http://izea.in/r1HYL Thanks! Oh, and if you don't get offers right away, don't worry, it seems like they come in spurts - I might not get one for a few months then get several all within one week or two! you can't necessarily count on it for "regular" income, but it's nice to add a little income when you can. I remember what it was like when my husband what in his PhD program! Let me know if you have any more questions about it.

  10. Thanks, Ann-Marie. Packing & moving is one of my most hated activities! Much of our stuff is still in boxed from our last move, but I'm going to have to go through it all and open boxes/repack because we're only bringing essentials right now and leaving the rest in my parents' basement. I refuse to stuff a household worth of items in a small apartment again!

  12. He loved subbing at my school so I think he really will love teaching.

You're welcome to stay with us once we're there! We won't have a guest room, but as long as you don't mind an air mattress in the living room, we have room for you!

  14. Congratulations, what wonderful news! The Lord always provides :)
My husband has been teaching for about 4 years now - it's not a job he thought he'd like but he does! I hope David finds the same :)

  20. Congratulations!! Wow, I'm so happy for you guys, I know it can be really demoralizing to job search, especially after working so hard for his degree.

I'm earning a little cash on the side doing paper editing and helping people make powerpoint presentations. I had no idea anyone would pay someone to make powerpoints, but they do. It's nice that you can do the sponsored posts, and I like that you tie them into real life. Don't feel bad!

    And congrats again!

  24. I worked in the Hispanic Studies office of my college as a work study employee one year. I did filing and made copies for the professors, but one of my biggest tasks was word processing (!) and making powerpoints, etc. for them because they were computer illiterate. Crazy, huh? I'll definitely search out some opportunities like that once we get settled in, thanks for the idea!

  25. Congratulations!
I've moved back home, but part of me still misses the Triangle. K would probably move back tomorrow.

It's a great area for kids, especially Cary/Morrisville. VERY family friendly.

  26. We really enjoyed it the first time we lived there, but we really didn't get to explore the area or get involved much. I was pregnant and then had a newborn and we just didn't get out often. I am looking forward to going back and really getting to know the area. It was a regret of mine when we moved that we lived in this new region of the country and never really took advantage of it. Who knew we'd be headed back less than a year later and have a second chance?

  27. I don't blame you. We finally gave in and rented a storage unit b/c the clutter was just getting to be too much to handle!!
