Wedding Re-do Photos

Last month, David and I celebrated 3 years of marriage!  I'd been toying with the idea of anniversary pictures for a while now.  Not just any anniversary pictures, but ones where I dusted off my wedding dress, squeeeezed in, and took the outdoor pictures I always wanted.  Our wedding day was a hot one, and add to it the church employee who kicked us out of the church before we finished pictures (and left me crying), I just wasn't up for outdoor pictures on the day of our wedding.  With our impending move (I wasn't bringing my wedding dress with us) and the possibility that at some future anniversary I might be unable to fit into my dress (due to pregnancy, or otherwise), I figured if it was ever going to happen, now was the time...

1 baby girl

& 1 PhD later,
we still do!
(& the dress still fits!)"*

We read to each other from our family Bible the readings from our wedding.  Neither of us could remember what they were, so I had to find our wedding program.  It was exciting searching for the passages, unsure of what we would find there, then remembering the discussions we originally had when we chose them over three years ago.

Photos were taken by an old high school friend of mine, Lacy, who recently started a photography business, Dandy Little Lens.  If you are in Northern Colorado, I can't recommend her enough.  Lacy was not only a fellow cheerleader in high school, but she's a mom of a preemie and cancer survivor.  She and her sweet one are both healthy now, but she's gone through some hard times and is still one of the most genuinely kind people I know.  And talented, obviously.

*When posting this photo on Facebook, I got numerous comments from friends saying they thought it was going to be a pregnancy announcement.  Honestly, I thought about that too when planning the pictures.  It really would be a great pregnancy announcement, right?  Well, can't announce news you don't have, but now I'm going to have to raise the bar when we do have something to announce.  If you have a favorite pregnancy announcement, won't you toss the link in comments?  I have to start a Pinterest board now...

I'll be sharing more next week, including some individuals of my sweet Lulu that Lacy took during the shoot, but for now, I'm linking up with Moxie Wife's Five Favorites.

  4. How sweet!! Your pictures are beautiful; happy belated anniversary! I'm not sure if I'm the best person to ask about pregnancy announcements...we went a little nuts with Braveheart-style facepaint to tell everyone about our little guy =)

    1. I had seen that! We won't find out gender (ever!) so that's not really an option anyway.

  5. We got kicked out of the church prematurely also. I've been wanting to get re-do pics taken outside ever since too!

    1. That's awful! The pictures I wish I could re-do are impossible, because they involved family and no one will be able to rent all those fancy suits again, etc. BUT I did get my outdoor pictures!

  6. The first picture made me tear up! I try on my wedding dress every anniversary--even when pregnant--but never thought of doing pictures like these before. Maybe at 5 years I can convince my husband to do it!

    1. David actually really had a great time and told me afterward, "Thank you for planning that. It was a great idea! It was so fun!" And he said it several times!

  7. Oh. my. gosh. I almost have tears in my eyes because this is such an awesome idea! You see, we never got outside portraits done because we ran out of time. We had a cheap photographer so I was always kind of disappointed with our photos. We celebrate our 5th anniversary next year, so I think this will be an AWESOME thing to do! I had never heard of this idea before! Thanks for sharing!!!

    1. I think there are a ton of pregnancy announcements on Pinterest that use chalkboard signs to announce the next baby, so I think that's why. My dress was never preserved but it got a bit dirty on the bottom during this photo shoot so I'll have to get it cleaned now.

  13. This is adorable! It was our 5 year anniversary this year and I SO wanted to do this, but I can't fit in my dress due to what 2 pregnancies and nursing has done to me! :( I'm still determined, though - maybe next year!

    1. Yes, next year! Everyone has mentioned doing it on a "big year" like 5 or 10, but you can do it any year (and I would suggest doing it as soon as the dress fits, since you never know...) We did it on year 3, which isn't a milestone, but the dress fit and so did the timing!

  14. What a cute idea! Love that you thought of this, maybe I need to break out my dress! We announced #2 by lining up our shoes, mine, my husband, my daughters, then a pair of booties. Underneath each pair of shoes I put the month and year we were born, so my daughters said Oct 2010, then under the booties we put our due date, June 2013. We took pictures, framed it and let our mothers open them together at a family party. It was so great sharing beautiful news with friends and family and since my son was unexpected EVERYONE was surprised!!
