The Big TWO & A Visit from St. Nick #7QT

--- 1 ---

Yesterday, my "baby" turned TWO! Maybe now would be a good time to revive the ol' birth story?
--- 2 ---

She really figured out the whole present opening thing this year. I was looking through the pictures and she had that excited look twice - both times when opening...clothes!  She's having a birthday party next weekend and then Christmas, so she'll have plenty of time to continue practicing.

She spent all of dinner yesterday not eating, but trying to blow out the candle in our Advent wreath.  Needless to say, she had no problem blowing out her birthday candles.  We did the traditional birthday ice cream sans cake.

St. Nicholas came today for Lucia!  Do you do St. Nicholas Day with your kids?  What do they get?  I've read a few fun things about this feast day recently, here are a few of my favorites: Celebrating St Nicholas, The Real Santa Claus, this post at Modern Mrs. Darcy, and the appropriate chapter of Haley's ebook (which you can now get in print as well!).  Have you come across any other great posts?

This past month, it's been impossible to ignore how mature she is. She loves making "dee-nah" for her baby doll.  She pulls the pots and pans out of the cabinet and tosses in her wooden food. Cooking without heat has proved be be quite hazardous as she has dropped a skillet and a rolling pin on her toes recently.  David let her "cook" at the stove the other night and she was over the moon!  I'm finding ways to have her help with the real cooking; it's more work for me but she loves it and someday I know it will pay off as less work for me.

I pulled out Lucia's nativity for the first time last Sunday and she can't get enough of it.  Baby Jesus won't make his arrival until Christmas and the Three Wise Men until the Epiphany, but she's convinced that the shepherd is Jesus anyway (He is the Good Shepherd, though, so she's kind of right).

We have a killer busy weekend. David and I are going to a ball.  Isn't that so fun to say?  I feel like Cinderella.  It's a dinner with a speaker and an orchestra and all.  Black tie optional.  Also, my church's craft fair is this weekend and I'll be selling Lilla Rose (my first vendor show ever - I'm nervous!).  What are your weekend plans?  I feel like we are slammed with busy between now and New Year's.  I'm really trying (and I think succeeding so far) to have a pretty low key Advent, focused in simple activities and prayer.  Let's hope it stays that way!

  1. Love 'The Snowy Day' - it's a favorite (at least on my end). Happy Birthday to your sweet little girl - I love that her curls aren't just baby curls.

  2. We talked about St. Nicholas last night - maybe he will make an appearance this afternoon when Hannabert and I arrive home from work/daycare...I love Kids in the Kitchen and last night we made cookies together. Hannabert especially loved the creamed butter/sugar mixture but wasn't too keen on the cookie dough when we added PB. My mom was a preschool teacher and she would do Saturday specials where we made things like blueberry muffins.

  4. I need to know more of this ball. Are you gonna have a massively puffy gown with glass slippers? ;)

Happy birthday to the baby girl. My goodness - time just flies on by, doesn't it?

  5. Thanks for linking up to your birth story! I've only become a birth story reader recently, and that's mainly because it's reassuring to see all the healthy babies that are delivered, no matter what way it happens or how the labor goes.

Happy birthday to Lucia! I love her sweet excited look! :)

I hope you two have a great time at the ball! That sounds so fun and glamorous!
