7 Quick Takes Friday (88)

--- 1 ---

Mother's Day is coming up this weekend.  Two years ago, I celebrated my first Mother's Day as a mama-to-be, which was super exciting and last year David graduated on Mother's Day.  I expect this year will be much more low-key.  I requested that David not spend the money for a present, which makes me a little sad, not because I want a present, but because I want to buy David one for Father's Day and I assume he won't want one either since he's not getting me one.  How do you celebrate Mother's/Father's Day?  Do you have family traditions?  Do you do gifts?

Speaking of Father's Day gifts, I think the SmartSquare is a cute idea for a new dad.  It's a handkerchief on the outside and baby wipe on the inside.  Why didn't I think of that?  Perfect for a dapper daddy who wants to look stylin' while wiping up baby goo.  There are definitely more baby items specifically for dads now, which I love!  Hands-on, involved fathers are amazing.  So glad David is one of them.

Before we move on from the topic of Mother's Day,  I want to mention the beautiful guest post Rakhi wrote for me earlier this week.  It's about the lessons of motherhood and it's a good one!

Last weekend, we were in Chicago/Indiana for the First Communion of David's cousin's son.  It was awesome getting together with the family!  We were very close with them when we lived in Indiana and saw them at least once a month.  My father-in-law, brother-in-law and his wife, and David's aunt from the other side of his family (his mom's sister [we were visiting his dad's family] - isn't that neat!) all went as well.  Lucia loved seeing all her cousins and was a busy bee the whole time.  I especially loved seeing her with her second cousin who's only 6 weeks older than her.  It made me a little sad to think that if we were still in Indiana, they would be in the same class at school when they were older.  Going back and visiting reminds me that we could have made a very nice life there had circumstances not taken us away.  Oh well, no use going down the road not traveled.

I'm helping my brother- and sister-in-law move into their (first!) house tomorrow!  They are moving about a half hour closer to us and are now only a half hour away.  There are new houses being built in their neighborhood so I keep thinking "Maybe, if David gets a job around here..."  Also dangerous thinking, but I can't stop.

After today, I only have seven teaching days left.  Where did the school year go?  The end of the year is daunting and the only way I'm going to make it through is by focusing on summer (as a kid, I never realized my teachers were excited for summer too).  I already have Lulu signed up for swimming lessons and gymnastics in June.  And a list of about a million items long of things to do.  #1 on the list?  Get a summer job.  Boo.

I wrote a post earlier this week on how I deal with baby fever.  I conveniently left out the ways in which I aggravate this affliction.  Like spending hours browsing America's Baby Mall.  Although, to be fair, I have found some things I'd love for Lucia there (like this baby doll stroller!).  But the nursery decor, baby gear, and clothes?  Yeah, no excuse for that but I just can't help myself.

  2. That's so awesome you'll be closer to your brother in law/sister in law! I can't believe how fast this year has gone, either :)
