Catholic Family Gifts - Music Box Review

Finding the perfect gift for the baptism of a godchild or another special baby in your life is often a daunting task.  I want to the gift to be something they can have for a lifetime and treasure, but something that is also appropriate for a baby.  David and I recently were given the honor of becoming godparents to my cousin's daughter, and I was unsure of what to buy for such a momentous occasion.  This Night Prayer music box would have been the perfect choice.

A music box is a great baptism gift for several reasons.  From a young age, the little one can enjoy the lullaby from the music box.  It can be used to store her rosary, medals and other treasures.  And what little girl doesn't love winding up her music box over and over again?

There are several features of the Night Prayer music box that make it unique.  The prayer on the lid reads, "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. May angels watch me through the night, and keep me in their blessed sight," which is such a sweet prayer for a young child.  However, if you prefer, you can remove the prayer and replace it with a picture (perhaps of the little one with her godparents at her baptism).  If you open the music box, there is is not only a velvet lined space to put jewelry and other keepsakes, but also the actual music movement visible under glass.  I was fascinated by winding up a music box and watching it play when I was a little girl (ok, I'll admit it, I'm still fascinated).  The pink finish makes it a sweet additional to any baby girl's room.  And if this isn't the perfect music box for your littler one, there are other choices, including blue music boxes for sweet little boys and other prayers and saying for the front.  I was very happy with the quality of the music box and look forward to having it a part of Lucia's room throughout her childhood.

Catholic Family Gifts is a great online source of Catholic gifts of all occasions.  It has not only a variety of baptism gifts, but also gifts for new and expectant parents (in the past, I've found religious gifts for baby showers and the birth of a child to be somewhat hard to find).  There are also gifts for other Catholic and life occasions, including First Communions, Confirmation, weddings, and more.  I particularly love the "Red Plate" items that are carried at Catholic Family Gifts.  Before browsing their store, I was unfamiliar with the Red Plate tradition.  According to the Catholic Family Gifts website, "the red plate, set at the place of a family member or guest, has for generations celebrated the accomplishments of individuals, offered support in times of struggle and welcomed honored guests."  What a wonderful way to acknowledge achievements, large and small, at the dinner table!  I hope to incorporate this tradition in my own family once Lucia is old enough.

Catholic Family Gifts has generously offered to give one reader the chance to win one of their items.  Winners will be able to choose from one of a select group of product which include the Night Prayer music box and Red Plate among others.  Click here to enter the Catholic Family Gifts giveaway (May 9-22).

I was sent a Night Prayer music box in order to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% mine. See Disclosure Policy.

  1. What a beautiful little music box.  My "baby girl" is 16.  This may be a little childish for her, but what a lovely gift idea for a baptism!
