7 Quick Takes Friday (Take 61)

David, Lucia &  I before the wedding
My brother-in-law's wedding last week was wonderful.  He and his new wife are both devout Catholics who also met on Catholic Match and had a long distance relationship like David and I did.  I've only been to one other Catholic wedding previously other than my own, so I can't make any generalizations yet; however, those I have attended strike me as very holy and solemn.  The reception was gorgeous and personalized, with the bride having made almost all the decorations, and the dance floor was packed.  What a fitting way to celebrate two becoming one!

The second post in the Broken: rising above damaging relationships series went up this week.  Christina tells her story of how low self-esteem and sexual assault led her toward damaging relationships. "Because of the assault, I was more desperate than ever to feel like someone, anyone, love me."

Lucia turned six months this week.  I haven't had a chance to write her six month post yet, mainly because I've been too busy enjoying my six month old!  She's so curious and active now, there isn't time for much more than keeping her entertained and out of trouble.  I will be writing the post in the next few days though because I think this has been her biggest month of growth and development yet!

Have you heard of WittleBeeIt's one of the many new "monthly subscription" baby/child programs, only this one has a twist - it's a monthly clothing delivery service.  I recently had a chance to receive a box for review and I have to say I was quite impressed.  For $40 a month, you get a box of "basic" clothing (onesies, tees, leggings, etc.) in your child's size delivered to you.  Not only that, you get to create a style profile for your child (Is she a hipster? Is he sporty?) so the items fit your likes and his/her personality.  Each box is guaranteed to have $100 or more worth of clothing.  So why am I telling you now and not putting all this in a review?  Well, a review is coming, but I saw a great deal through Plum District for two months of WittleBee boxes for $45 (an $80 value - and a promise of at least $200 of kids clothes).  I think this would make an awesome baby gift or would help bolster your child's wardrobe.  Do be warned, you will automatically be enrolled for a membership, so don't forget to cancel it if you don't want to continue at $40 per month.

Recently, I've been feeling a little nostalgic for the 90s.  I  was discussing my terrible elementary and middle school fashion (neon colored baggy t-shirts, stirrup paint, black combat boots, and a matching scrunchy) and remembering just how cool I thought I looked.  Sigh.  (Are you wondering why this is the only quick take without a picture? Seriously, I'm not putting a picture of that outfit up here!)  Anyway, if you are feeling nostalgic for the 90s, here's a few reminders of what we're missing: laughable 90s fashion, a 90s kid's favorite books (I loved me some Goosebumps!), and the 90s dance music playlist. And of course, you can't forget to take the quiz to see which 90s fitness craze you should try!

This week I did something I really haven't done much of since Lucia was born.  I crafted.  I don't know about you, but for me, there is a huge sense of accomplishment that comes from actually making something.  My projects didn't turn out great, but I was really excited to try stenciling for the first time and I think I learned some valuable lessons for the next time.  If you want to get crafty too, you can read my review and giveaway of the Cutting Edge Stencils that I used for my projects (they also have wall painting stencils - I'd LOVE to have a stenciled accent wall in my future house!).

Sometimes I have to remind myself I'm not a "deal blogger" or "coupon blogger" because I sometimes find such great deals and always want to share them.  Have you heard about Honest Company?  I heard about it a while back in an interview with Jessica Alba.  It's her new company, a baby diapers and "essentials" (bath & body and cleaning products) company that focuses on environmentally friendly, chemical-free, gentle-for-baby products.  These are the kind of products I like to use for Lucia (while we cloth diaper at home, we do use disposables away and I'm always looking for great green & gentle sposies).  Right now you can get a free trial of The Honest Co. Diapers and Wipes and/or Essentials for only $4.95 shipping & handling.  I'm not sure how much comes in the sample, but I'm sure that it's more than worth the $4.95.  Again, beware, when you order this, you are enrolled as a monthly subscriber and you have 7 days to cancel.

  8. One of the things I miss about having digital cable is the channel Teen Nick. They used to play old 90s tv shows that I LOVED like Hey Dude and Doug as part of a "90s are all that" series.

  9.  Mandi, I really enjoy your blog! Mine is super tiny so I am taking some mental notes over here. :) I love having an online sorority to bond with, like sisters in a way! We are all in the same boat in life. :) Thanks again for all that you blog about!
