What I Wore Sunday: Big Heels & Feeling LIke a Pharisee

  cami: Apt 9 (Kohl's) | jacket: Mudd (Kohl's)
skirt: Copper Key | leggings: Old Navy | shoes: Guess (Marshall's)

Our plan for Mass today was took keep Lucia up all morning, put her in her infant car seat, have her fall asleep on the way, and enjoy Mass while she slept through it.  It was risky, double or nothing if you will.  If she didn't fall asleep on the way, that meant we would have a cranky toddler waaaaay past nap time.  At that point, she's akin to a ravenous bear.

It worked!  She slept until after Communion!    A+ for my little blunderbuss.  If you don't know what a blunderbuss is,  you obviously don't watch Pawn Stars.

There were two Gospel reading options today.  If you heard the Prodigal Son, you might be interested in my reflection last week about the little-known background of the parable (hint: Jesus didn't make up the tale, but did drastically change the ending).

Today I heard the Gospel of the man born blind Is anyone like me a little ashamed to say that sometimes you identify a bit with the over scrupulous Pharisees?
They brought the one who was once blind to the Pharisees. Now Jesus had made clay and opened his eyes on a sabbath. So then the Pharisees also asked him how he was able to see. He said to them, “He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and now I can see.”
So some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, because he does not keep the sabbath.”
Do you ever find yourself glancing around church and noticing the people that aren't dressed appropriately?  The teenagers that are chewing gum?  The couple chitchatting during the consecration?  I do and I have to say that my thoughts toward them aren't charitable.  You know what I never think?  I'm so happy they are here worshiping God with me.  Oops.  You know what I should be doing instead?  Worshiping God.  Paying attention to Mass.  Praying.  Deepening my faith instead of judging others.  Oops.  I'm definitely bringing a new attitude with me to church next Sunday.

On Friday, I wrote that this Lent seemed to be a bit lazy and nonexistant But now that I think about it, I was wrong to say that.  It's true that I've been lazy, but God has still been able to speak to me during this season.  In fact, other than last Sunday when I couldn't hear the reading or homily over the sound of my screaming toddler, I can't remember a time in my life when the readings and homilies seem to have such strong messages seemingly meant directly for me.  It's been a huge season for discovering my flaws.  I'm tempted to say nothing spiritual has been going on, because those flaws are still there.  But the first step to chance is acknowledging a problem though, right?

I'm linking up to Fine Linen and Purple's What I Wore Sunday linkup.  Check it out for more church attire inspiration.

  4. I liked your honesty about looking around at other during Mass...sometimes I catch myself doing it too, and sometimes I'm not as honest with myself about it either...we're all a work in progress :)

  6. They are fun...for a short time. Then they start getting a little less than comfy.
