¡Viva Cristo Rey! {WIWS}

Have you ever felt a Saint pursuing you?  His/her name keeps coming up in things you read, conversations you have?  You feel this pull toward him/her?  I've heard many times that your patron Saints choose you, not the other way around.  If you've experienced something like this, I'd love if you'd share your story with me.

I've been feeling that way for a while about Bl. Miguel Pro.  I first heard him name learning about the Mexican Revolution in a Mexican history class in college and he's been following me ever since.  This weekend was the last straw.  He was part of the Cristero movement, whose battle cry was ¡Viva Cristo Rey! (Long live Christ the King!).  Yesterday was his feast day (the anniversary of his death) and today is the Solemnity of Christ the King.  Everywhere I turn, I've been hearing his name.

Ok, ok, I'm giving in.  Bl. Miguel Pro, I get it!  I know that you are calling me for something.  I'll be on the lookout for a book on your life and will be listening for what you have to say.  If anyone has read anything about him or has some great resources to share, I'd love if you'd point me in the right direction!

Here's what I wore to celebrate Christ the King:

  jacket: Ann Taylor | pants: LOFT | shoes: Maurice's

Linking up with What I Wore Sunday.  Head over for more church attire inspiration.

  1. Neat about Bl. Miguel. I can't say that I've ever really felt a saint calling me, but I'm intrigued to hear more stories.

    Cute, jacket. You look great!

    1. Thank you, I really wanted to wear this jacket today so I did a million outfit changes to figure out something that went with it. It was a hand-me-down from a colleague I taught with last year and this was my first time wearing it!

  2. I'm sorry if I bring up something painful, and I don't know if you named the child you just lost (I believe it was too early to know the gender), but maybe, just maybe, he is letting you know your son's name and that he is his patron saint, always watching out for him and taking care of him up there until you can be reunited. He is not leaving you alone until you understand/accept that?

    1. No need to apologize, Amy! I didn't think of it at all that way, that is a comforting thought. We did already name our child, but I love the idea of Bl. Miguel Pro caring for him.

  3. I love your Saint story! I'm pretty sure St. Therese chose to be my patron. A few years ago, I was just about to leave on vacation and I got an electrical shock from an outlet. I was fine, but I was terrified that my son had died in the womb (I was 16 weeks along). When I was on the airplane, after having no previous devotion to her and honestly not having thought about her in years, I was moved to ask St. Therese for a single red rose as a sign that the baby was ok. And as soon as I got off the plane, a woman walked past me holding a single red rose. There were no flower stands in the concourse and she was traveling alone. It blew me away how specific it was. And that week I started to feel the baby move, even though it was very early for a first pregnancy. After reflecting on the experience I realized that St. Therese had been following me for a while:)

  4. I definitely felt like Felicity chose me, though I didn't discover the reasons until about 10 years later. And I feel that St. Gerard pursued us, and now we won't give him a break! I think I've shared both of those stories before, though.

    I'll have to google Blessed Miguel Pro and learn a little more about him!

  6. Definitely. St. Helen of the Cross. I read about her on your blog, then discovered that according to family legend, she is my 35th great grandmother. :)

  7. If you haven't already, you must watch the movie For Greater Glory about his story.

  9. I had a similar experience earlier this year with St. Josemaria Escriva - he suddenly kept coming up in conversation and elsewhere. Love the idea of saints pursuing us!
